Toddler program

Our two-day toddler program is designed to promote social skills and independence. Here is an example of what to expect in a typical class:

  • Playtime in the classroom includes activities such as play dough, sand, art activities, blocks, dramatic centre and a rotating variety of toys.

  • Tidy up as a group and wash hands for snack time.

  • For snack time, the preschool provides a nutritious snack.

  • We sit together to sing songs and play games during carpet time. As the children develop their attention span, carpet time becomes longer and we introduce concepts such as numbers and taking turns in games.

  • Gross motor activities take place either outside in our fully-fenced playground or in the gym. Children play with a variety of riding toys, balls, etc. and are encouraged to play active games.

Preschool program

Preschool programs are offered two mornings or two afternoons per week, and on Friday morning as an add-on program. Our days usually look like this:

  • Gross motor activities take place either outside in our fully-fenced playground or in the gym. Children play with a variety of riding toys, balls and sports equipment, and are encouraged to play active games. When playing outdoors, they are encouraged to put their outdoor clothes in their cubbies upon returning inside.

  • During carpet time, we learn about our current theme through discussion, songs and games. We also explore concepts related to numbers, matching and colour recognition.

  • For snack time, children wash their hands, get their cups and sit at a snack table to enjoy a nutritious snack. After snack, the children put away their own snack supplies.

  • During free play, children choose from activities such as play dough, sand box, arts and crafts, puzzles, dramatic play, books, blocks and a rotating variety of other toys.

  • At tidy up time, everyone helps tidy up the classroom.

  • For song and reading time, we do a calendar and weather chart with the children. Starting in late October, we introduce a letter each week from the Jolly Phonics program

  • Life Skills such as dressing and taking care of personal needs help build self confidence and independence.

KinderPrep

This enhanced program is designed to bridge the gap between preschool and kindergarten, and is beneficial for 3 and 4 year olds. The combination of two days of preschool and two days of KinderPrep can offer an alternative to junior kindergarten for those children not yet ready for a full day of structured learning. Our enhanced program offers:

  • Jolly Phonics activities that offer further learning opportunities on top of the basics offered in the preschool class (e.g., sounding out words and printing skills).

  • Promotion of literacy skills through poems and rhymes, creating and retelling stories and trips to the public library.

  • Math skills are developed through graphing, classifying, sorting and measuring. We will encourage number recognition and positioning.

  • Social development will take place through group games and group activities.

  • Music and movement helps develop math and literacy skills. We will use singing and creative movement in the classroom as well as welcoming musical guests.

  • Life Skills such as dressing and taking care of personal needs will build self confidence and independence.

  • Science activities from the Wings of Discovery program help children discover and question how things work.
