Preschoolers
Preschool programs are offered two mornings or two afternoons per week. Our days usually look like this:
- Gross motor activities either outside or in the gym – children play with a variety of riding toys, balls, sports equipment and are encouraged to play active games. When playing outdoors, they are encouraged to put their outdoor things in their cubbies upon returning inside and are organized into two circle groups.
- Circle time – we learn about our current theme through discussion, songs and games. We also include concepts such as numbers, matching and colour recognition.
- Snack time – the children wash their hands, get their cup and napkin and sit at the snack table to enjoy a nutritious snack. After snack, the children put away their own snack supplies.
- Free play – the children can choose from activities such as play dough, sand box, arts and crafts, puzzles, dramatic play, books, blocks and a variety of other toys
- Tidy up time – everyone helps tidy up the classroom
- Song and reading time – during this time we do a calendar and weather chart with the children. In late October, we introduce a letter each week from the Jolly Phonics program
- Other activities in the preschool program include science experiments, baking once a month, field trips and an occasional visitor from the community
